Our race, disability, gender, & sexuality make us all unique and should be celebrated. Our industry has a duty to make art that truly imitates life. If we were all the same, the world would be a boring place.”

As artists who pride ourselves on our ability to reach and include people from all walks of life, it is imperative that they are represented both on and off our stages. I am excited to be a co-founder of We The Industry Inc. because I believe this initiative is a small step toward securing a truly inclusive future for our wonderful industry. “

I feel positive about being part of change and proud to be in the company of the other members of the board who I respect and admire and know I will learn from. I’m excited to be part of a community that is actively involved in mentoring, training and nurturing new talent because I would have loved access to that when I was younger. I have loved being a part of the Australian Music Theatre community and I look forward to encouraging and supporting young people into a new version of this industry in which they feel represented."

Creating a safer more joyful path for Black, Indigenous and POC artists has been something I’ve endeavoured to do for years, so to have an organisation like We The Industry Inc. fight for that is exactly what is needed. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been the only black or POC in the cast of a show, so we need to change that all too familiar dynamic. The shows coming to Australia are inclusive and we need to support the talent to meet that global standard."

“I’m very honoured to be on this team with a group of people that I am so inspired by and continually learning from. Proud to be a part of this initiative which seeks to break down the systemic barriers in our educational institutions and industry at large. Hoping to create an inclusive community of artists that not only acknowledge differences in all their forms, but seeks to understand them and actively champion them. As a person who is and has been living with a chronic illness for the last 20 years I know how challenging working in an industry that isn’t designed to accomodate people with a disability or chronic illness. I hope I can be a support and advocate for long overdue change in this area, as well as being an active ally and amplifying voices in the Bla(c)k, Indigenous, People Of Colour, Transgender and non cis gendered communities. Representation matters. If you see it, you can be it.”

"The opportunities in this industry are far and few between for those who belong to minority groups. Our fates are often in the hands of people who do not understand our experience. With that being said, we are in the midst of a crucial and well overdue shift in our industry. Diversity in the arts is not about a token inclusion or about ticking the right boxes. It is about creating space for people to tell stories, authentically, with the help and guidance from people who understand where they are coming from. Diverse storytelling is truthful storytelling. It is enriching. It has the capability to teach us things we would not have otherwise known. It captures the rich and TRUTHFUL tapestry of our nation. We need it. I, and the powerful team at We The Industry Inc., are committed to helping tell the stories that need to be told, from people who deserve to be listened to and the world will be a better place because of it."
We, the team at We The Industry, acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land throughout Australia in which we work and live. We recognise their continuing connection to land, water, community and culture. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We extend this acknowledgement further to those of the Wiradjuri nation upon whose land this organisation was founded. Sovereignty was never ceded.
